The EST Committee through its meetings and decisions, wish to contribute to the SAMA vision of empowering doctors to improve the health of the nation. Top priorities of the EST Committee have been identified as the following -
• Addressing a lack of PhDs in the country, inter alia by way of SAMA sponsorship
• Addressing a lack of research into key health aspects
• Health Technology – quality control aspects and ancillary SAMA involvement
• Education and Training – links with the HPCSA, CMSA, ADASA, SARA, FPD
• Infectious diseases - education and intervention programmes on these matters
• Focus on non-communicable diseases and occupational health.
Furthermore, the Committee provides an advisory role to members on matters concerning Education, Science and Technology, and provides informed input on draft legislation.
