Lufuno (Rudo) Mathivha, SAMA former board member and former chairperson of
Education Science and Technology Committee has been awarded the most outstanding

A
South African first for a female doctor to receive the Presidential Award of
Critical Care Society in the Southern Africa region, the award worth acknowledging
and celebrating. This award will go a long way in motivating all those aspiring
to become academics in the field of Medicine.
“As
the committee for Public Sector doctors, we are encouraged by her achievement
and perseverance”, says Chairperson of the SAMA Board Committee for Public
Sector Doctors Dr Phophi Ramathuba.
Prof
Rudo as she is commonly known is currently the head of ICU at Chris Hani
Baragwanath Hospital and is indeed an inspiration to all medical doctors.
Dr L Mbodi of the South African Registras Association (SARA) says,
“from the interactions we had with Prof Rudo during my internship at Chris Hani
Baragwanath Hospital, I would describe her as “The iron lady”, a hands-on
consultant, an HOD who was always willing to admit when wrong, welcomed suggestions
from every member of the team and willing to be consulted and give advice at
all times. Equally she is firm and very hard working. She rightly deserves this
award."
The
award recognises her as the most outstanding medical specialist in the SADC
region.
