South African Medical Association

SEDASA shows how teamwork and joint efforts can make a difference in the lives of many.

The Senior Employed Doctors Association of South Africa (SEDASA) an interest group of the South African Medical Association (“SAMA”) that constitute the majority of “SAMA” membership in the Public Sector in collaboration with the South African Cancer Association (CANSA) and EQURA Health embarked on a project to support CANSA oncology care centres in Bloemfontein by contributing and raising R80 000.00 towards replacing old beds for oncology patients and other needs identified at the care centres.

CANSA oncology care centres in Bloemfontein serve almost 50% of the geographical land area of South Africa. It provides treatment to patients from Free State, Northern Cape, North West, Part of Eastern Cape and Lesotho. The patients rely on CANSA oncology care centres such as House Olea and House Katleho for accommodation while undergoing treatment

Teamwork plays fundamental role in patient care, workplace and community. SEDASA demonstrated this by making substantial difference in the lives of the oncology patients treated at the CANSA oncology care centres in Bloemfontein by partaking in promoting general wellbeing, awareness of prostate cancer and donating 13 new mattresses and base sets.

The new mattresses and base sets plus additional funds raised were handed over to CANSA at a fitness and prostate awareness event on 25 November 2016 at the Nelson Mandela drive oncology centre in Bloemfontein.

The fitness and prostate awareness event supported by SEDASA leadership was honoured by the Cheetah rugby team, Kovsie karate club, several sport stars and well renowned specialists in prostate cancer and sport medicine.

SEDASA National General Council while addressing visibility concerns raised by SEDASA members during the random provincial support visits resolve to use this project to maximize SEDASA visibility, promulgate the name of our beloved organization “SAMA” and disseminate that we care for our patients and the community at large
