Message from Dr Maurice Goodman, Chief Medical Officer, Discovery Health

Dear colleagues

At Discovery, we are extremely sensitive to the impact of the recent riots on your already enormously stressful working conditions. We are also aware that some of your consulting rooms have been destroyed, including equipment and patient records. Even for those who have not been as severely impacted, we are sensitive to your emotional and sometimes financial distress as well as to the challenges you face in delivering care to your patients in the period ahead.

In our ongoing desire to be a trusted source of support for your personal wellbeing and practice sustainability, we are working with the Relief for Health Care Workers Forum to provide you with the following assistance:

- The ability for you to continue caring for your patients remotely and in safety. We will be providing support for virtual consults and accessing patient records to enable you to continue caring for your patients. Please contact your field force consultant or me on MGoodman@discovery.co.za for assistance in this regard.

- Personal and business support, including:

o Healthy Company for Doctors, which provides emotional support as well as trusted legal and financial advice. This can be accessed on the Supporting doctor wellness through Healthy Company tab of our website www.discovery.co.za. Find out more about this offering here.

o 24/7 crisis support via our Young Doctor Mental Health Helpline, which we have specifically repurposed to assist you during this period. This service is contactable on 0800-323-323.

o Facilitation of access to finance for practice rebuilding via Well by Merchant Capital

- Funding for restoration of your practice facilities to be managed by the V4HCW Relief Forum.

We will also be offering group debriefing sessions, including all practice staff for those doctors whose practices have been impacted by the riots.

Please contact me on MGoodman@discovery.co.za if you need any further assistance.

Best regards,
Dr Maurice Goodman
